I'm not sure if this should be more annoying to the users of your website... or the web master... but today while surfing the web... I found what I hoped to be an interesting website. However, rather than getting to view the websites content, I received the follow apology:
Unsupported Browser
Sorry, but you are using an older or unsupported browser.
We recommend you try the following: * Mozilla FireFox: 1.0.5 or higher
* Mozilla SeaMonkey: 1.0 or higher
* Internet Explorer: 6.0 or higher
All of these are FREE and easy to download and use.
Now, I could understand that if I used an old browser, some web pages might not look perfect, but hopefully I could still get the essence of the site.
In this case, I couldn't get a hint of the sites content... I couldn't possibly interact in any way that might be beneficial to the webmaster.. and isn't that why someone makes a website? For some benefit to themselves by the traffic, if even just the distribution of information.
I can't imagine why anyone would under any condition replace their actual web content with such a message... especially considering that my browser and browser identification string is...
"Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008111318 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.4"
Gosh, that is Mozilla Firefox version 1.0.5 or higher.
Just say no to loser webmaster... well in this case he said no for me and will probably be crying over his log files wonder why no one is visiting his site.
I guess this little browser detection "trick" will in the end be more annoying for him/her.
